The KIND Approach

 

A common reaction we've received from first time students at KIND is, "Wow, it feels like I've finally found what I was searching for, but I didn't even know it was missing in the first place." What they're really communicating to us, is that they're feeling a deeper sense of connection, belonging and purpose, and these feelings are a result of our unique model. At KIND, there are three principles faithfully woven into the fabric of our company that guide each action we take. Remove any of these three elements and the magic of KIND Yoga is lost.

Our recipe consists of three ingredients; Community, Mindfulness, and Nature. Science has proven that the power of nature, yoga and community combined is greater than the sum of each individually.

 

The KIND recipe results in an intentional, deeply connected, and abundant yoga experience.

 

Community (noun)

A collection of humans with diverse characteristics linked together by shared values and intentions who come together in support of a common goal. 

Mindfulness (noun) 

A cultivation of the ethics, wisdom, and meditation aspects of the eightfold path taught by the Buddha. Mindfulness is a present moment awareness of thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations, as well as a constant integration of past learnings, old patterns, and newfound insights. This awareness forms our understanding of ourselves and our interconnectedness to the world around us, and the best actions to take to reduce harm and suffering for all.

Nature (noun) 

The phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, and all sentient beings, and other features and products of the earth, and their interconnectedness forming a complex whole.

 

 

 

Get to know Ellen

The Face Behind KIND

Ellen is a studio owner, and mindfulness facilitator by trade, but her true calling lies in helping students discover what makes them come alive. Ellen helps students unearth a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in their practice, ultimately driving them to integrate what they discover on their mats into their everyday lives off the mat.

Her first yoga class was at age 14, when she realized that up until that first savasana, she had never felt truly relaxed. Ellen fell in love with the way yoga made her feel and was instantly hooked. In exchange for free yoga, she volunteered cleaning as a teen at a local studio which eventually lead her to follow her curiosity and complete her:

  • 200hr Hatha Teacher Training

  • 500hr Modo Teacher Training

  • 100hr Modo Flow Training

  • 10 month Interdisciplinary Approach to Movement & Mindfulness Education Teacher Training and Mentorship program through Spirit Loft Movement Center

  • 10 Day silent Vipassana Meditation Course

  • 9 month meditation/precepts course studying with Poep Sa Frank Jude

  • ACSM Personal training course through Cuesta College

  • Four year ambassadorship program with Lululemon

  • Yoga Detour Method Training, combining yoga with modern movement and mobility

  • Psychology Degree at UBC Vancouver (in progress)

Ellen continues to distill the knowledge she learns and accumulates from her mentors into the KIND Yoga 250hr nature based YTT, in the hopes that what is generously shared with her will enrich and bring joy and freedom to the lives of her students.
